An owner's notebook
An owner’s notebook, not a product launch.
The desk is real and stays real: wood grain, cable clutter at the edge, a coffee ring, the scuff on the thing being reviewed. Graphics sit on top of that world like a label on a shelf, not like a stage set built around it.
Tactile beats slick. Wear is evidence, not a flaw to hide. Nothing is retouched to look newer than it is.
Frame
- Static shots are a default, not a fallback. A locked-off shot on the desk, held for the beat, is the house shot. Push-ins and pans are for when the eye has somewhere to go.
- Footage is full-frame. No frames within frames, no device mockups, no drop-shadowed screenshots floating on a colored card. A screen recording is shown as the screen.
- A vertical cut worth posting is its own cut, not a crop of the wide one.
Surfaces and color
Two grounds only: the footage itself, or flat ink. A flat paper card is allowed when the content is text-heavy. No tinted panels, no frosted glass, no gradients, no glow, no grain overlay on graphics.
Gold is the only accent and the only emphasis. If one thing on screen is gold, it is the thing that matters in that beat.
If everything is gold, nothing is.
Footage is not graded toward a “look”. Correct exposure and white balance, then leave it.
Type
Three faces, by role: a display face for verdicts and frame-flip statements, a condensed face for numbers and metadata, and a humanist sans for everything else. One caption face per video. Emphasis varies through the gold highlight, never by switching fonts.
Text on screen is short: a label, a number with its unit, a two-line card at most. If it needs a paragraph, it belongs in the narration.
This site obeys the same rules
The page you are reading uses those three faces and that one accent. Gold measures 2.08:1 on white, so it never carries text here; it is a rule under a link and a fill behind ink. Neither banned face appears. If the site looked like a product launch, the method would be worth less.
